Spouse and partner visas

You have found your person. Now the Home Office would like to see the paperwork. Partner visas are refused far more often for evidence than for anything else: income worked out the wrong way, payslips that do not match the bank statements, a relationship that is real but not proved on paper. We get the evidence right before the fee is paid, so the first answer is yes.

Is this you?

Married partners and civil partners of British citizens and people with settled status, applying from abroad or switching inside the UK. Fiancé(e)s and proposed civil partners coming to marry here, then switching without leaving. Unmarried partners who have lived together and can show it.

What we do for you

  • Confirm the right category and whether you can switch in the UK
  • Work out the financial requirement from your actual income, savings or a mix, including self-employment and pensions
  • Build the relationship and accommodation evidence
  • Prepare and submit the application with written representations where anything is unusual
  • Deal with Home Office requests
  • Advise on the decision and the next step on the route to settlement

What we check before anything is submitted

  • Income and savings against the rule that applies to your category and how long you have held them
  • Payslips, bank statements, P60s and employer letters matching each other line by line
  • Marriage or civil partnership certificate, or for unmarried partners the cohabitation trail
  • English language and the approved test
  • Accommodation that is adequate and not overcrowded
  • Previous immigration history for both of you

The fee, the timescale and who does the work

£1,400 to £1,800 plus VAT.

Your exact fixed fee is confirmed on the free call and agreed in writing before any chargeable work starts. Home Office fees and the health surcharge are paid separately; see the Fees page for the full list.

Our fee covers taking your instructions, assessing eligibility, telling you what evidence is needed and reviewing it, preparing and drafting the application and any representations, submitting it, dealing with Home Office requests for information, and advising you on the decision.

Typical timescale. From abroad usually 8 to 24 weeks; in the UK 8 to 26 weeks. Priority services can shorten this for a Home Office fee.

Who handles it. A named, Law Society accredited caseworker runs your matter from the first call to the decision, supervised by a solicitor who signs off the application.

Questions we hear every week

Can we use savings if one of us is self-employed?

Usually yes, but the rules count income and savings in specific ways and periods; we work it out on the free call.

Do we need to have lived together?

Married couples, no. Unmarried partners, yes, and we show you how to prove it.

Can my partner switch in the UK?

It depends on their current visa; some can, some cannot, and getting this wrong is a common refusal.
