Bringing a parent or relative who needs your care
This is the hardest family route in the rules, and we say so on the first call. It is meant for relatives who need long-term personal care that they cannot get, or afford, where they live. When the evidence exists, it can be done. When it does not exist yet, we tell you plainly and what it would take.
Is this you?
Parents, grandparents, adult children and siblings of British citizens and settled people, who need daily personal care because of age, illness or disability.
What we do for you
- An honest assessment on the evidence before any fee is paid
- Commission and gather the medical evidence
- Research and document the care available, and not available, in the home country
- Show the sponsor’s maintenance and accommodation
- Write detailed representations
- Submit and handle requests, with appeal advice if needed
What we check before anything is submitted
- Medical reports on the care needed and why
- Evidence on care providers locally, their cost and their suitability
- The sponsor’s finances and undertaking
- Family circumstances and why care cannot be given by others there
The fee, the timescale and who does the work
£2,200 to £3,500 plus VAT.
Your exact fixed fee is confirmed on the free call and agreed in writing before any chargeable work starts. Home Office fees and the health surcharge are paid separately; see the Fees page for the full list.
Our fee covers taking your instructions, assessing eligibility, telling you what evidence is needed and reviewing it, preparing and drafting the application and any representations, submitting it, dealing with Home Office requests for information, and advising you on the decision.
Typical timescale. From abroad usually 12 to 24 weeks.
Who handles it. A named, Law Society accredited caseworker runs your matter from the first call to the decision, supervised by a solicitor who signs off the application.
Questions we hear every week
My mother is elderly; is that enough?
Age alone is not; the rules require a need for long-term personal care.
Can a paid carer abroad defeat the application?
It can, if the care is available and reasonably affordable; this is where most cases are argued.
Is there an alternative?
Sometimes a visit visa or a human rights claim; we check both.
Together, on time, first time.
